Face Off Episode One Highlights

Face Off is a makeup competition on the SyFy Channel. The show has professional makeup artists who specialize in special effects and theatrical makeup pitted against each other. Each episode one contestant is eliminated and the rest of the contestants are one step closer to being the next movie makeup magician!

Fourteen makeup artists begin the competition. Who gets eliminated is up to the show's judges are three-time Academy Award winner Ve Neill (Pirates of the Caribbean, Edward Scissorhands) and Hollywood veterans Glenn Hetrick (Heroes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files) and Patrick Tatopoulos (Underworld, Independence Day, Resident Evil: Extinction) as Face Off's judges.

Episode One of Season Two is called Return to Oz. And starts out with last year's champion Connor McCullagh and the show's host McKenzie Westmore assign the first challenge to the contestants: transform their live model into a character that represents their makeup style. The winner is Gerald with his Elvan Queen.

And that means that he has immunity for the spotlight challenge and cannot be sent home.

The spotlight challenge was one I really loved because I am a huge Wizard of Oz fan. The makeup artists were split into two teams: the girls vs. the boys. Each had to design 4 iconic Wizard of Oz characters into a re-imagined design.

Here are the characters the boys came up with:

And the girls won with their fabulous re-imagined Wizard of Oz makeup and costumes:

The Wicked Witch makeup and headpiece for the Wicked Witch was really cool, but my favorite was the Spooky Scarecrow:

The girls won, so someone from the boys' team had to be sent home and it was Greg, the judges were not impressed with the chest he designed for the Tin Woodsman.
